Duke Energy improves power quality monitoring with Dranetz for 4-hour annual downtime thin-film extrusion

Duke Energy, a proactive utility company, sought to better understand and mitigate power quality issues affecting continuous-process industries like textiles, where minor fluctuations can cause major production losses and financial damage. To address this challenge, they partnered with Dranetz and used the Dranetz Encore Series power monitoring system in a research project.

The solution involved using the Dranetz Encore Series on a custom Webstand simulator developed with Clemson University to model textile processes. This setup allowed them to test the effects of various power disturbances and validate control system models. The proven system was then expanded for installation at a real thin-film extrusion plant. The Dranetz solution provides comprehensive monitoring to quickly identify the source and cause of faults, helping to ensure processes are not interrupted and final product quality consistently meets specifications.
