Wirral Health Informatics Service (WHIS) - Customer Case Study

Wirral Health Informatics Service (WHIS) is an NHS department responsible for information and IT services across Wirral’s health organisations and was tasked with developing an electronic cancer patient record. WHIS faced a data-quality challenge: matching and de-duplicating patient records across primary, secondary and tertiary care systems to create a single, accurate patient view. WHIS engaged DQ Global and its DQ Toolkit™ to address the sensitive risk of incorrect patient matches.

DQ Global implemented the DQ Toolkit™ embedded into WHIS’s patient record applications, the Wirral MPI and a complex EPR, providing formatting, standardisation and high-confidence matching. The result was a duplicate-free database and a single patient view for the electronic cancer register; the solution was later expanded to the central MPI linking 68 local NHS systems and enabling remote GP-to-hospital order communications for radiology and pathology.
