The University of Pretoria's Student Counselling Unit (SCU) sought a way to provide 24/7 access to mental health resources for its students, a need that was critically exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. They partnered with DotModus to develop a solution using Google Cloud technologies, including Dialogflow, to create an accessible virtual assistant.

DotModus built the SCU-B chatbot, named Scooby, which offers students confidential, conversational access to self-help resources and tools. The solution provided immediate, data-light support to students, leading to fast uptake and steady growth in usage. DotModus enabled the SCU to proactively anticipate student needs through anonymized usage data, enriching the support ecosystem and paving the way for future bot integration.
