Harambee, a South African nonprofit addressing youth unemployment, faced significant challenges in managing applicant data and improving mobile experiences for job seekers. Their on-premises infrastructure was unable to scale to analyze their vast datasets. Partnering with Google Cloud Partner DotModus, they moved to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to build a flexible, cloud-native architecture.

DotModus implemented a solution using App Engine, Kubernetes Engine, and BigQuery. The architecture improved data processing and enabled the use of machine learning and Google Maps APIs to optimize job placements by calculating commute times. This resulted in a 70% reduction in data center costs, allowing funds to be redirected to mission-critical services. The solution has scaled to help over 50,000 youths find employment and positions Harambee to potentially assist millions globally.
