How Gettysburg College Brings IoT to Education With dotCMS

Gettysburg College confronted the shift to an IoT and voice-first world as students began requesting hands‑free access to campus information (notably dining menus and event schedules) via Amazon Alexa. To deliver content in conversational, audio-first formats rather than traditional web pages, Gettysburg adopted dotCMS — an open‑source platform with Content‑as‑a‑Service (headless CMS) capabilities.

Using dotCMS, Gettysburg structured and delivered content via APIs so the college could launch Alexa Skills (the Dining Menu and Calendar, with Phone Directory and News in development). dotCMS’s headless approach let the college reuse existing content across web and voice, made the dining menu (its most popular page) accessible by voice, simplified student access to menus and events, and provided a repeatable template for future IoT integrations.
