Canon boosts production output with Dorner’s two-tier conveyor system

Canon Virginia, a world-class contract manufacturer and American manufacturing facility for Canon, faced a challenge in its fast-paced production environment where space was at a premium and workers needed to keep pace with a pick-and-place robot. To address this, they connected with vendor Dorner to implement a custom two-tiered conveyor system utilizing the 2200 Series conveyor.

Dorner developed a unique solution by stacking two slightly offset 2200 Series conveyors in a single frame. This system allowed the robot to deliver parts to the lower level while the operator simultaneously inspected parts from the upper level, optimizing the workflow. According to a Canon mechanical engineer, this implementation led to better utilization of their workers, increased production output, and lowered overall costs.
