Buhrke Industries demagnetizes 350,000 housing assemblies with Dorner

Buhrke Industries, a Tier One automotive stamper/assembler, faced a challenge with a robotic airbag housing part that was becoming magnetized during welding. This magnetism attracted small metal particles, which created a rough finish that interfered with a subsequent e-coating process and dissatisfied their end customer. To solve this, they worked with vendor Dorner and installed a demagnetizer, but required a conveyor to move parts a proper distance away from it.

Dorner provided the solution by repurposing a 2200 Series conveyor. After an initial issue with a slick belt causing parts to back up, Dorner supplied a high friction Type 64 belt which provided the necessary grip. The new processing line was a success, allowing Buhrke Industries to reliably supply over 350,000 demagnetized housing assemblies, resulting in a satisfied customer and a successful resolution to the problem.
