A dormakaba Case Study
University College Dublin expanded its Belfield Campus with a new six‑storey residential block adding 134 bed spaces and required a highly efficient, airtight thermal envelope plus robust fire‑safety and security on all external doors. dormakaba was engaged to supply door hardware for the project, providing ED 200 automatic door operators (featured alongside ED 100/250 A) and SVP automatic‑action locks to meet the building’s sustainability and safety specifications.
dormakaba installed ED 200 operators on every external doorway and fitted SVP locks that lock immediately on closure with a two‑point deadbolt and clawbolt, while the ED units revert to manual, hydraulically dampened closing when a fire alarm is triggered or power is lost. The solution completed the efficient thermal envelope, met stringent fire and security requirements across all external doors, and helped deliver a sustainable student residence that contributed to the project winning Best Sustainable Project at the Irish Architecture Awards 2011.
