A dormakaba Case Study
Salem Chapel Fire Department, a volunteer station that fields roughly 290–370 calls per year, struggled with an aging single-code mechanical pushbutton lock installed in 1988 that failed when the department needed to change access after members left. To improve security and reduce access delays for first responders, the department turned to dormakaba and its PowerPlex electronic pushbutton lock.
dormakaba installed PowerPlex locks on both exterior doors and the office, giving each user an individual code (up to 100 users), eliminating batteries and wiring with self-powered PowerStar™ super-capacitor technology (holds power for up to 10 weeks), and providing BHMA Grade 1/ADA-compliant hardware. The dormakaba solution let the department delete departing users without reissuing a common code, enabled quicker two-sided entry to the squad truck, reduced maintenance, and improved overall security and response reliability.
