A dormakaba Case Study
North Carolina-Based Wireless Access Control Manufacturing Company, a historic 1905 facility with 150,000 square feet and more than 250 employees, faced a complex web of access points after multiple renovations and needed a cost-effective way to expand control and monitoring across roughly 100 identified doors (including a pump house 300' from the main building). The customer selected dormakaba to replace its legacy wired system, choosing dormakaba’s Wireless System (E‑Plex Enterprise System with Wireless Option) using Mifare® card credentials and ZigBee communication to preserve a single smart‑card solution.
dormakaba implemented E‑Plex locks and controllers with Gateways/Routers, Wireless Antenna Kits on existing locks, and Enterprise software with a central SQL database to manage users, schedules and audit trails. The wireless mesh covered ~100 access points, provided real‑time control of remote locations (securing the 300' pump house without trenching), simplified installation, enabled vendor/contractor card workflows, and increased employee awareness of security—modernizing the historic site while avoiding the high cost and disruption of a wired retrofit.
