Champlain College Saint-Lambert needed to restore and modernize access control at its student center after renovations left many Solitaire 850 locks removed, damaged, or offline. The Champlain Student Association required a solution that would preserve existing mag‑stripe credentials, eliminate the need to program locks at each door, and provide centralized, real‑time control — dormakaba (Kaba) was running a pilot to upgrade legacy locks to a new software platform.

dormakaba repaired and upgraded sixteen Solitaire 850 locks using its E‑Plex Enterprise Software package, adding wireless antennas, circuit boards and gateway/routers tied to a central workstation. The implementation delivered real‑time event reporting, remote unlock/lockdown capability, access schedules, audit trails and Door Groups, preserving the original lock investment while restoring full functionality and streamlining operations (16 locks upgraded and managed centrally).
