Allerton High School in Leeds was struggling with a new double automatic entrance whose original door operators could not cope with excessively windy site conditions. The doors failed to close properly, increasing heat loss, draughts and heating demand while reducing staff comfort and creating security risks. dormakaba was called in to address the failing installation using its ED250A / ED 100/250 A door operator technology.

dormakaba fitted its ED250A Wind Load Control, which compensates for wind loads up to 150 N and uses adjustable electronic latching to ensure reliable closure in adverse weather; one set was swapped out first for on-site comparison, then the second set replaced. The dormakaba solution eliminated the wind-load problems, restored secure, properly closing doors, reduced heat loss and draughts (helping lower heating demand and the building’s carbon footprint), and improved overall safety and comfort.
