Latch & AvalonBay Partner to Create an Affordable, Tech-First Resident Experience

AvalonBay Communities, one of the largest multifamily owners in the U.S., needed to deliver a tech-forward, affordable resident experience at its new Kanso Twinbrook development in Rockville, MD while cutting operating costs. To reduce expenses tied to staffing, amenities and utilities without sacrificing convenience, AvalonBay partnered with DOOR to deploy a smart-access, self-service touring and apartment automation solution.

DOOR installed smart access devices at common areas and unit doors, integrated remote climate controls and a mobile app-based self-guided touring workflow, and provided ongoing support for staff and residents. The DOOR solution enabled contactless unattended leasing during COVID, streamlined move-ins, allowed Kanso Twinbrook’s property management team to operate off-site, and proved repeatable enough that AvalonBay plans to expand the DOOR partnership to additional new and retrofit buildings.
