L3Harris doubles NLOS range to 200 meters with Doodle Labs

L3Harris, a defense contractor, partnered with Doodle Labs to solve a critical communications challenge for a lightweight explosive ordnance disposal robot developed for the U.S. Navy. The robot needed a rugged, high-performance radio link capable of maintaining high-throughput data, like video, in complete non-line-of-sight situations from at least 100 meters away, while also overcoming Fresnel zone interference.

Doodle Labs customized a high-powered MIMO radio solution, leveraging its Industrial Wi-Fi Transceiver and Front-End Subsystem families to operate at an optimal 1.4 GHz frequency. This system acted as a power booster to ensure reliable connectivity. The result was a radio that doubled the requirement, enabling robot operation from 200 meters away through a building, and was successfully integrated into the deployed system.
