Case Study: Kitty Hawk achieves long-distance video streaming for flying vehicles with Doodle Labs Mesh Rider Radio

A Doodle Labs Case Study

Kitty Hawk streams 4K video from 6 miles with Doodle Labs

Kitty Hawk, a developer of electric personal flying vehicles, faced the challenge of finding a high-performance wireless data link for its Flyer aircraft. The solution needed to provide long-range connectivity with low latency and minimal size and weight, while also supporting future features like autonomous flight and mesh networking. They partnered with vendor Doodle Labs to integrate a suitable radio system.

Doodle Labs implemented its Mesh Rider Radio, a small and lightweight router developed for UAS and robotics. The solution provided a long-range broadband link capable of streaming 4K video from 10 km away and offered the operational flexibility to work in any frequency band required for global deployment. The results gave Kitty Hawk a robust communications infrastructure, enabling the team to focus on developing its vehicle while Doodle Labs' technology supported critical features like low-latency command and control and HD video streaming.
