Okta, a global identity and access management company with offices worldwide and many remote employees, needed a way to keep its workforce connected and strengthen employee experience during the rapid shift to remote work in the COVID-19 pandemic. Working to support wellness, community, and belonging across a distributed team, Okta looked for an easy, high-impact way to build meaningful relationships at scale.

Using Donut’s random pairing and lottery-style virtual coffee program in Slack, Okta set up recurring employee coffee chats, a CEO coffee sweepstakes, and customized intro prompts like “Lived, Learned, Loved.” Donut helped Okta launch quickly with minimal effort and strong executive participation, driving 62% employee participation and more than doubling engagement after the CEO program was announced. Okta reported that the program created authentic cross-team connections and helped reinforce its remote culture.
