Case Study: Betterment Builds Community and Connection with Donut

A Donut Case Study

Preview of the Betterment Case Study

How Betterment Grew Community Along with Company Size

Betterment, the fintech company, needed to preserve a strong sense of community as it scaled quickly across New York, Philadelphia, Denver, and remote teams. To help employees build relationships beyond their day-to-day tasks, Betterment used Donut, the Slack-based employee connection tool, to encourage informal meetups and social connection across the organization.

With Donut, Betterment launched company-wide introductions, budgeted meetups, and remote-friendly coffee chats, all reinforced by selfie posts and conversation recaps in a dedicated Slack channel. The program expanded into affinity groups and peer-learning sessions, and it helped create a lasting culture of connection: nearly 80% of Betterment now participates in Donut meetups, making the initiative a core part of how the company maintains community while growing.
