Case Study: National Basketball Association achieves faster, more accurate real-time viewership estimates with Domo

A Domo Case Study

Preview of the National Basketball Association Case Study

How the NBA is Using Domo to Estimate Viewership

The NBA, led by Jonathan Berkowsky, Senior Manager of Global Media Insights, faced a challenge: estimating game viewership from a slow, manual process based on historical Nielsen ratings that couldn’t scale or answer dynamic questions about player injuries, winning streaks, network effects, and matchup appeal. The league needed faster, more granular data and greater agility to make media and scheduling decisions in a competitive landscape.

Partnering with Domo, the NBA built an automated data‑science model that ingests diverse datasets to pinpoint key predictors—network, which players (and superstars) are on the court, injuries, and streaks—and produces real‑time viewership estimates for full schedules. The result is faster, more accurate forecasts, organization‑wide access to up‑to‑date insights, improved decision making, and a better fan experience.
