A Domo Case Study

Preview of the NBA Case Study

Do the Jerseys Matter? | How the NBA is Harnessing the Power of Domo to Estimate Viewership

The NBA, a global sports and media organization with 30 teams and substantial TV revenue, needed more accurate, faster viewership estimates to guide scheduling, broadcast and promotion decisions. Their prior approach—manual analysis of historical Nielsen ratings—was labor-intensive and couldn’t incorporate many important variables like network, player availability, winning streaks or injuries.

By partnering with Domo, the NBA built an automated data-science pipeline that ingests diverse datasets to produce real-time viewership estimates. The model identified key predictors (network, superstar players, matchups), updates automatically, and gives the whole organization access to up-to-date insights—resulting in faster, more accurate estimates that improve decision-making, promotional planning and the fan experience.
