Case Study: Kingsport City Schools preserves its iconic high school dome with Dome Technology

A Dome Technology Case Study

Kingsport City Schools extends 5,500-seat dome lifespan with Dome Technology

Kingsport City Schools faced a challenge with the failing wooden dome roof of the Dobyns-Bennett High School gymnasium. The district sought a solution to salvage this iconic community facility rather than demolish it. Dome Technology was hired to rehabilitate the aging structure.

Dome Technology engineered a solution to retrofit the roof with new steel components that were joined to the existing wood beams, preserving the ceiling's unique star motif. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and the rehabilitated dome now promises an unlimited lifespan for the 5,500-seat facility. This allowed the school to maintain the tradition of the structure while avoiding weather-related delays during construction.
