Dome Technology was contracted by Hansen School District 415 to construct a new auxiliary gymnasium. The district needed additional space for student activities and community events while staying within a specific budget, which was partially funded by a $1 million donation. They also sought a facility that would offer long-term value and lower operating costs.
The solution implemented by Dome Technology was the construction of a durable concrete dome gymnasium. This building method used an inflated airform to create a strong, self-supporting roof structure. According to Dome Technology, the resulting building requires no interior supports, will significantly exceed building codes, and is expected to yield lower utility costs due to its energy-efficient concrete shell. The district achieved its goal of a multi-purpose facility that will serve as both a gym and a community center for the long term.
