How Outbrain attained cost efficiency with Dataproc and BigQuery

Outbrain, a leading digital media and content discovery platform, needed to modernize its aging research cluster while keeping it compatible with its on-premises recommendation environment. To meet a tight four-month migration deadline without disrupting operations, Outbrain worked with vendor DoiT International and Google Cloud technologies such as Cloud Dataproc and BigQuery.

DoiT International helped Outbrain migrate its research data to Google Cloud Storage and build a scalable new research platform on Cloud Dataproc, using autoscaling and preemptible nodes to improve efficiency. The result was a successful migration with minimal disruption and about 40% lower infrastructure costs, while BigQuery also enabled more granular traffic analytics and better data center optimization.
