Researchers at the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at UCSF and the Athena Breast Health Network launched the WISDOM study to rethink one‑size‑fits‑all breast cancer screening and answer the critical question of how often women should get mammograms. Because the trial needed 100,000 participants to produce definitive, personalized screening guidance, traditional paper enrollment was impractical and the team also had to ensure strict HIPAA and IRB compliance.
UCSF partnered with DocuSign and Salesforce to create a secure, guided online portal that delivers individualized forms, enables remote eSignature, and stores enrollment data safely. The digital workflow made it easy for women to enroll and complete genetic testing from home, accelerated accrual, expanded recruitment beyond California to build a more diverse cohort, and freed researchers to focus on study management and analysis.
