Extra Space Storage, the largest owner/operator of self-storage properties in the U.S. with about 900 locations in 34 states, faced a costly and slow in-person lease-signing process: multi-page, state-specific contracts required onsite review and used about a box of paper per facility each month. The company needed to cut costs, speed up rentals, and reduce errors across its many locations.
Extra Space Storage piloted and then rolled out DocuSign—chosen for ease of use and tight Salesforce integration with PowerForms—enabling staff to send the correct lease automatically and customers to sign on a customer-facing screen. The change cut paper use from a box to a single ream per month (about a 90% reduction), shrank signing time from ~30 minutes to 10 minutes or less, improved operational efficiency and customer/employee satisfaction, and opened the door to broader use across the business.
