Expedia, the world’s leading online travel company, depended on signed paper contracts to add hotels and promotional offers to its sites. Market managers emailed PDFs to headquarters, where teams printed, routed for wet-ink signatures and faxed contracts back—creating 12–15 inch daily paper stacks and multi-hour fax runs that couldn’t scale to handle hundreds of contracts per week.

Expedia implemented DocuSign’s enterprise e-signature service to replace printing, routing and faxing. Market managers now send documents with virtual “sign here” tabs for real-time executive signatures, creating encrypted electronic records accessible by browser. The change sped contract turnaround, got hotels and promotions to market faster (increasing revenue and extending introductory rates), improved process visibility and recordkeeping, and was later expanded to HR and recruiting.
