Friesen Pankratz & Associates (FPA) is a full‑service accounting firm in Abbotsford, BC serving more than 450 businesses and preparing over 1,200 personal tax returns a year. The firm was wasting significant time searching for paper tax records and needed a secure, easy way to share documents with clients after a day‑long search made the problem clear.

FPA implemented Document Locator — an affordable, SQL Server‑based document management system with scanning and Web access — to digitize tax returns, workpapers and electronic files, and to provide client access and version history. The change cut retrieval time dramatically (a client’s three years of records were found and printed in minutes), improved client relations, freed storage space for two offices, and set the firm up to add workflow and continue back‑scanning older records.
