West-Central Independent Living Solutions (WILS) is a Missouri nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live independently, including managing employment services for 600–800 personal care attendants across six counties. The organization was drowning in paper — hundreds of time sheets every pay period, about 90 staff-hours a week spent processing them, strict retention/audit requirements, and a real risk of loss from tornado or fire — and was even considering costly mechanized filing systems to solve a growing storage crisis.

WILS implemented Document Locator with on-site customization from ColumbiaSoft, adding barcode scanning for automated indexing and a DocuSign workflow for signatures. The change cut payroll processing by about 20 hours a week, improved data access and quality control, sped audits from days to hours, protected records with centralized backups, and led to broad company adoption — eliminating the need for the extra file cabinets.
