Document management technology enables City of Hope to streamline accounting and accelerate insurance billing

City of Hope National Medical Center, a National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer center in Duarte, CA, faced growing paper records in its accounting department and an outdated document management system that left staff 8–12 hours behind and struggled to meet stricter HIPAA security requirements.

The hospital implemented Document Locator (with WebTools, ScanStation, Barcode and AutoBatch OCR) to automate scanning and full-text/zone indexing and enforce role-based security. The change sped access to records, accelerated insurance billing, enabled paperless charge ticket processing, and cut a monthly posting task from three–four days to about one hour while simplifying user training and administration.
