A DocStar Case Study
The City of Camden, New Jersey, a municipal government with about 1,200 employees and records dating back to 1828, faced severe space, budget and preservation challenges—1,200–1,500 banker’s boxes of inactive permanent records (2,400–3,000 sq ft), damaged archives, and staff spending 1–10 minutes or more locating paper files. To modernize records management and protect historic documents, the City of Camden selected DocStar and its Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution.
DocStar implemented a fully networked ECM system with scanning, DVD/RAID and multi-server backups, off-site disaster recovery (Document Mall) and WebView for public access. The DocStar solution enabled near‑instant access to records, certified Camden by NJDARM (one of 83 certified entities statewide), reduced physical storage and paperwork, supported scanning of 1,000+ documents per day, and enabled a 10‑municipality Southern Jersey Shared Services Coalition that serves ~200,000 residents and realized coalition-wide cost savings of about $1 million.
