Sinclair Broadcast Group builds a 25,000-sq.-ft. IP media operations center with Diversified

Sinclair Broadcast Group faced the significant challenge of building a new, large-scale IP-based media operations center to support the backend technical infrastructure for its Bally Sports regional sports networks. This complex project, which involved transitioning 19 networks to a new facility, was made even more difficult by the tight timeline and the need to execute it during a pandemic. Partnering with Encompass Digital Media to house the facility, Sinclair turned to Diversified to design and build the 25,000-square-foot, native SMPTE ST 2110 infrastructure.

Diversified implemented an end-to-end IP solution that included a multichannel monitoring room, 40 live-event pods, and a central equipment room with 84 racks of gear. The technical infrastructure leveraged a software-defined media platform and a red and blue spine-and-leaf IP network to manage a massive amount of channels for decoding, encoding, and playout. Through an organized and efficient project approach, Diversified successfully navigated the unprecedented logistical hurdles to deliver the facility on time. The collaboration resulted in a resounding success for Sinclair, providing a modern and efficient foundation for its sports broadcasting operations.
