Case Study: NASA achieves high-fidelity Orion cockpit displays with DiSTI GL Studio

NASA, as part of its Constellation Program, needed a high-fidelity cockpit display solution for the Orion spacecraft—a next-generation crew exploration vehicle designed for missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. To meet demanding human factors, prototyping, and integration requirements, NASA selected DiSTI and its GL Studio toolkit.

DiSTI implemented GL Studio to develop Orion’s cockpit displays, using OpenGL-based 3D objects, broad platform support, and a common display code base from NASA Johnson Space Center. The solution improved portability and reuse across teams, reduced development time, and delivered high-fidelity graphics for the spacecraft’s avionics system, helping support NASA’s goal of safe and effective exploration beyond Earth.
