L3Harris, through its L-3 Communications aviation training work, needed a more realistic and interactive avionics display for the U.S. Army’s AVCATT rotary-wing training system. The original virtual avionics product lacked the interactivity, performance, and realism required for high-quality military training, so the company turned to DiSTI and its GL Studio software.

Using DiSTI’s GL Studio toolkit, the team rapidly built reconfigurable cockpit interfaces for all five helicopter platforms in AVCATT, creating photorealistic virtual instruments from high-resolution aircraft photos. DiSTI delivered about 60 instruments with 200 active parameters in less than eight weeks, while reusable software objects helped cut development time by allowing graphical elements to be built once and reused across platforms.
