Case Study: European Space Agency achieves realistic Mars rover training with DiSTI GL Studio

A DiSTI Case Study

Preview of the European Space Agency Case Study

Continued exploration of our solar system is central to the advancement of mankind, but manned flights beyond Earth’s orbit continue to prove difficult

The European Space Agency (ESA) needed a realistic way to study the psychological and technical challenges of long-duration missions as part of the Mars500 project, including how crews would operate a manned Martian rover in an unfamiliar environment. To support this training and research effort, ESA worked with DiSTI and its GL Studio software for high-fidelity visual simulation.

DiSTI used GL Studio to help create photo-realistic cockpit displays and controls for the rover simulation, enabling JC Group Ltd and Information Meta Systems Company (IMS) to build accurate virtual replicas of the actual rover interface. The result was a more immersive and realistic crew training experience that improved situational awareness and helped engineers rapidly generate key graphical user interfaces without sacrificing critical instrumentation cues.
