Boeing Defense, Space & Security needed to upgrade the U.S. Navy F/A-18E Integrated Virtual Environment Maintenance Trainers (IVEMT) and extend the training content to cover the F/A-18F two-seat configuration, the E/A-18G variant, and multiple avionics updates. To do this, Boeing selected DiSTI’s VE Studio, its 3D virtual maintenance training development platform, to build the Student Aircraft Interface Trainer Station (SAITS).

DiSTI delivered a fully interactive 3D maintenance trainer that lets personnel navigate a virtual aircraft, interact with support equipment, and complete more than 400 simulated maintenance procedures and tests. The solution accurately replicated the aircraft and more than 60 support/test items using CAD data, physics-based models, and the aircraft’s operational flight program, resulting in high-fidelity training and earning DiSTI a Boeing Atlas Award nomination.
