Elevating Student Voices While Meeting State Academic Standards

The Arizona Department of Education partnered with Discovery Education to address the need for high-quality, standards-aligned digital resources. A significant challenge was finding culturally authentic materials, particularly for Native American history, to engage students and prepare them for new components of statewide assessments.

Discovery Education implemented its Experience platform and created the custom "Stories of the Southwest Channel" in collaboration with local Indigenous communities. This solution provided educators with vetted, grab-and-go resources that met academic standards while elevating student voices. Discovery Education also provided professional learning to help teachers integrate these cross-curricular materials, resulting in deeper student engagement and a supportive classroom community for diverse learners.
