Westside Community Schools serves 6,200 students with Discovery Education

Westside Community Schools, a school district in Omaha, Nebraska, required engaging and effective science labs to meet its physics graduation requirement and reach a broad spectrum of students. Their challenge was to move beyond traditional textbook labs and provide advanced, hands-on digital experiences that could captivate all learners. To address this, they partnered with vendor Discovery Education and its product, Pivot Interactives.

The solution from Discovery Education provided a library of interactive video-based labs through Pivot Interactives. This allowed for a higher variety of experiments, frame-by-frame analysis for precision, and tools like automatic graphing to let students focus on physics concepts. The results were highly engaged students, including formerly reluctant science students who developed a new passion for the subject and even progressed to AP courses. The measurable impact included adoption across 14 schools serving 6,200 students and expansion into chemistry and biology classes, creating a broader community of science enthusiasts.
