Sahuarita Unified School District validates Science Techbook with McREL study in 2022-23

The Sahuarita Unified School District (SUSD) partnered with Discovery Education to implement its Science Techbook product for middle school students. The challenge was to understand the correlation between the use of this digital resource and student science aptitude, as well as to identify the successes and challenges for teachers in using the new platform.

Discovery Education worked with McREL International to conduct a study during the 2022-23 school year. The solution involved administering pre- and post-assessments to measure science aptitude and gathering teacher feedback through surveys and interviews. The study found promising evidence of a positive correlation between Techbook use and science achievement, meeting the ESSA Tier 3 level of evidence.
