NetEase sought to drive immediate gameplay for the global launch of its PC RPG, Where Winds Meet, during a crowded release window. Their challenge was to efficiently convert high-intent players from awareness into real in-game action at scale. They partnered with the vendor Discord to achieve this.
Discord implemented a Play Quest campaign that rewarded players with Discord Orbs for completing a time-based gameplay objective. This solution successfully drove active participation, resulting in a PC cost per install of $0.46 during the launch week. The campaign's performance led to an 11x increase in ad spend, and Discord became the top new user acquisition channel for NetEase.
