Learning about Business Intelligence Hands-On in the Classroom

Polk State College, a public college in central Florida, sought to provide its business information technology students with practical, hands-on experience in business intelligence software to better prepare them for the workforce. To achieve this, the college partnered with vendor Dimensional Insight to incorporate its Diver Platform into the curriculum, moving beyond a solely theory-based approach.

Dimensional Insight provided training, manuals, and access to its ProDiver and NetDiver solutions, which were integrated into a senior-level course project. Students gained real-world experience in data mining and analysis, culminating in a business case scenario. As a result of this initiative, graduates were able to enter the workforce with direct experience using industry-standard business intelligence software. The implementation was so successful that Polk State expanded its use of the Dimensional Insight Diver Platform into two additional courses by Fall 2016.
