Getting Physicians to Buy in to Performance Management by Focusing on Trust and Teamwork

Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) sought to implement a business intelligence solution to establish a performance baseline for its new intensivist program and drive best practices in its ICUs. The challenge involved getting critical buy-in from both hospital decision-makers and physicians, who were initially skeptical about data accuracy and the intent behind performance measurement. GMC partnered with vendor Dimensional Insight to address this using its Diver Platform.

Dimensional Insight provided a solution that built trust through data transparency, allowing physicians to drill down to patient-level details. Their approach focused on establishing a baseline for improvement rather than initial individual performance assessment. The vendor's Diver Platform offered defined, trusted measures and enabled unique time-period comparisons to track progress. This strategy successfully fostered physician buy-in, decreased team conflict, and allowed GMC to begin making data-driven decisions to improve clinical outcomes and resource utilization.
