Southern Rail Puts Meetings Back on Track With Diligent

Southern Railway, which operates 414 miles of track, 156 stations and around 300 trains with over 4,000 employees, faced a time-consuming governance challenge: compiling reports from up to 20 sources for monthly group, executive and sub-board meetings required printing, collating and binding that took staff up to three full days each month and generated significant paper waste.

The company implemented the Diligent Boards portal across its executive, group and sub-boards, trained users, and moved almost instantly from paper to tablet-based meetings. Preparation time fell from three days to about 30 minutes, directors no longer transport bulky packs, annotations and sharing (including with external auditors) are simpler, and the switch delivered measurable time and environmental savings.
