Lonmin, a major platinum producer headquartered in London with operations in South Africa, faced mounting boardroom challenges: directors scattered across South Africa, the UK and Spain, heavy travel schedules, and a paper-based process that consumed up to six staff members and produced board packs of 300–850+ pages. The logistics and security of couriering large binders, last-minute changes and disposal of sensitive documents made the paper system increasingly unsustainable.

After trialling several providers, Lonmin adopted Diligent Boards’ iPad portal for its strong security, back-end secretariat functionality and easy annotation for directors. Adoption was rapid after the first meeting, enabling real-time updates for remote executives, eliminating bulky couriered packs, and delivering significant efficiency gains and cost savings in administration and printing.
