United Plating is a 40-year-old finishing services company with 150,000 sq. ft. across two campuses and nine buildings, serving major aerospace and industrial customers. As the business grew, its geographically separated facilities had never been connected for voice, creating a need for a true unified communications solution rather than a simple phone system to support redundancy and customer service goals.

After running cable and fiber between buildings, United Plating deployed Digium’s Switchvox UC platform, routing Ethernet for computers through the phones and assigning about 20 users to the system. The new unified voice-and-data infrastructure eliminated separate fax, broadband and inter-campus phone lines (converted to Internet faxing), producing an estimated $8,000 per year in savings and a single cohesive communications platform.
