A Digium Case Study
The Symbian Foundation is a non‑profit organization that maintains an open-source mobile software platform with offices worldwide. When opening its London HQ it needed a communications system that supported its collaborative, mobile-first culture—where Skype and instant messaging were already the preferred tools—while keeping costs under control and preserving open development principles.
Symbian deployed an Asterisk PBX integrated with the Skype for Asterisk module, designed and implemented by Foehn Ltd in six weeks, to route Skype, mobile, fixed-line and Google Talk calls, provide conferencing, voicemail‑to‑email and one‑click transfers. The solution matched employees’ preferred devices and workflows and cut telephony costs dramatically, yielding estimated savings of about £10,000 per month.
