A Digium Case Study
Union County School District (UCSD), a 2,700-student, 500-employee district in northern Georgia, needed a cost-effective, multi-site communications system to replace an aging Mitel 200SX. Key requirements included integration with existing intercom and paging systems, district-wide four-digit dialing, voicemail-to-email, location-based 911, and easy scalability for moves, adds, and changes.
UCSD deployed Switchvox appliances at each of five schools and the district office—over 230 IP phones—integrated via the district fiber network and a PRI to the public phone system, with Rauland Telecenter intercoms interfacing to Switchvox. The Switchboard application simplified call handling and emergency monitoring, voicemail-to-email improved teacher responsiveness, and location-based 911 plus police listen-in enhanced safety. The district reports seamless operation, strong user adoption, richer features than the previous system, and significant cost savings.
