A Digium Case Study
Balboa Park, San Diego’s 1,200-acre cultural park with dozens of museums, theaters and attractions, faced fragmented, antiquated phone systems across 26 member venues. Rising analog-line costs, unreliable self-managed VoIP, and no unified directory made communications inefficient and expensive, so the Balboa Park Online Collaborative partnered with local reseller SDTEK to build a centralized, modern solution.
Using foundation grants to install a fiber backbone, BPOC deployed a Digium Switchvox SMB 355 and centralized call directory that supports mobility, instant messaging, unlimited conferencing and automated call queues. The project eliminated costly analog lines (the Visitor’s Center alone saves about $1,200/month), improved reliability and support, gave visitors a single number for information across the park, and created a scalable platform to add more venues and capture ongoing cost savings.
