Roxbury Preparatory Charter School, a growing middle‑school program in Boston’s Mission Hill, doubled enrollment and expanded facilities, creating a communications problem: teachers rotate classrooms and the aging NEC digital system could only ring room extensions. The school needed a flexible VoIP solution to deliver calls and messages to individual teachers regardless of location, add paging and zone announcements, and provide a reliable way to dial 911 from classroom workstations.
AmeriCom installed a Digium Switchvox SMB AA305 PBX with a single PRI, 77 Polycom SoundPoint IP phones, and a rebuilt data network (PoE switches and cabling). The new system delivers unified messaging, voicemail‑to‑email, mobile forwarding, paging zones with warning tones, conferencing and a desktop 911 capability. As a result, staff receive discreet, timely messages anywhere on campus, paging and call quality improved, parent‑teacher conferencing expanded (including language liaisons), and the school gained a flexible, cost‑effective communications platform.
