Glyph Studios, a Manila-based software company, needed an affordable, customizable way to deliver voicemail-style services to Philippine mobile subscribers—where carriers didn’t offer standard voicemail—and to scale that service from a startup level to millions of users while keeping infrastructure costs low.

They built their Missed Call Alert (MCA) on the open-source Asterisk platform, using Digium E1/T1 PRI cards and nine servers (8 E1s/server) to handle large call volumes. The Asterisk-based solution grew MCA from 100,000 to more than 12 million users in two years (handling about 6 million calls/day), enabled multiple additional apps, and set the company on a path to further scale with a SIP backend and ongoing Asterisk optimization and training.
