A Digium Case Study
IPC Solutions, a Canberra-based telecoms integrator founded by Michael Knill, was asked to address a major Australian government department’s costly teleconferencing: the department was spending about $250,000 per year on an external service and was considering a $100,000+ big-box conferencing system. IPC took on the challenge to deliver a more flexible, low-cost alternative.
Using AsteriskNOW installed on a spare server and integrated via SIP trunk, IPC built a dynamic conferencing system where each extension acts as a conference room with user-chosen PINs and an XML phone app for participant lists. After rigorous testing and a successful pilot, the solution proved highly reliable (about 20 conferences/day), paid for itself in under a month, required minimal support, and saved the client well over $100,000 versus the vendor option while eliminating recurring external costs.
