La Poste, France’s national mail service and the country’s second-largest employer, needed a modern phone system for its Human Resources organization—2,500 employees overall, with an initial rollout to unify 800 users across Paris and Nantes. The organization wanted an open-source VoIP solution but had little in-house VoIP experience and required fast deployment and staff training; after a public tender Proformatique won the contract thanks to a competitive price and the flexibility of an Asterisk-based approach.
Proformatique installed an Asterisk-based system in just a few weeks using Digium hardware (TE122P, TE407P), SIP and IAX2 connections, and Asterisk features such as fax, MeetMe, ISDN and call parking, and provided IT training for level‑1 support. The system has run smoothly for over 18 months, delivering an estimated $400,000 in savings, and La Poste plans to expand to 23 external offices and integrate the phone system with OpenERP.
